The Council is made up of 13 councillors representing two wards of Braunton East and Braunton West. The Parish extends to the sea coast and the estuary of The Taw, and includes the hamlets of Saunton, Lobb, Nethercott, Knowle, Winsham, Halsinger, Pipppacot, and Boode.

Councillors are responsible for making key policy decisions and deciding on the Council’s spending plans and budget for the financial year ahead.

The Council’s key aims and responsibilities are to:

• Serve its community and manage public assets.
• Promote economic growth, cultural and social requirements in the community.
• Represent the views and opinions of the local community to other authorities and agencies.
• Consult the local community on existing and new services.
• Protect, preserve and enhance Braunton’s history, traditions and heritage for present and future generations.

Meetings of the Council and its committees are held in the Council Chamber. Full Council meetings are held monthly and committees meet quarterly, including:
• Finance and Administration
• Property
• Parks and Gardens

The Council employs 3 full time and 4 part-time staff. Officers provide support to councillors as required and a qualified Proper Officer is present at all meetings to provide legal and practical advice and record decisions that are made.
